A Day in the Life at Boat Beautiful: The Crew Behind Central Texas’s Most Beloved Boat Detail Company.

At Boat Beautiful, the day kicks off early with a crew of determined detail technicians ready to tackle whatever the lake, marina, or the road to get there throws their way. As the sun rises, the team gathers supplies, loads up the vans, and checks in with Alex, the General Manager, who’s already reviewing new inquiries and any last-minute changes to the schedule. Once everyone’s good to go, the red, white, and blue Boat Beautiful vans roll out—heading toward marinas and private docks across Central Texas.

Once the vans are gone, the office and shop get a little quieter—unless technicians are inside working on Ceramic Coating, wet sanding, or giving the trademark Boat Beautiful detail to boats on trailers dropped off at our new location in the Vineyard Business Center, right off 620. Alex stays busy as the team’s main point of contact—answering questions, solving issues like updated gate codes, locating power supplies for pressure washers, or helping techs navigate a tricky marina or dock. With seven years at Boat Beautiful, he’s seen it all and knows exactly how to help. Sometimes, you might even catch the man himself — owner Andrew Hayslip — at the shop, offering guidance backed by over 17 years in the boat detailing business. He’s there making sure everything’s running smoothly, the business keeps moving forward, and his team is taken care of — always making sure, as he would say, that everyone’s ‘making it happen, Captain!’

Back out across Lake Travis, Lake Austin, and Lake LBJ, each day brings a mix of boats and clients. From glamorous homes on Lake Austin to the marinas of Horseshoe Bay Resort, the team is everywhere. Some boats are long overdue for a detail and take more time. Others are part of the “Regs” program—clients who get their boats detailed regularly, whether bi-weekly, monthly, or a few times a year. These boats are easier to maintain, but every job still gets the full Boat Beautiful treatment. It’s hard work—especially during the summer—but there’s also a sense of peace and tranquility when detailing out at some of the most beautiful lakes in the world.

Once the day’s boats are done, the crew heads back to the shop. Used equipment like polisher pads, microfiber towels, and drying towels are cleaned and prepped for the next day. Everyone’s a little beat after a long day, but Alex is there to welcome the team back, cracking a few jokes and asking how everything went.

The Future of Austin Lakes

With Austin being the fastest growing city in the nation, the questions begs, what does the future hold for Austin’s lakes? Currently, in times of drought, the state has difficulty supplying enough water for the current population. This has led the City of Austin to adopt a “Water Forward” initiative. This initiative is a 100- year water plan that could ensure all Austinites have access to water.

The Water Forward initiative has a strong focus on water conservation and increasing the use of water-efficient products. This initiative also utilizes non-traditional sources of water. Examples of non-traditional sources of water are rain water, storm water and waste water. You can utilize these non-traditional sources in areas such as watering lawns, in your toilet, or for washing you clothes. These would save millions of gallons of potable water every year. These simple goals can help achieve long term sustainability of Austin and surrounding areas even in times of drought.

Happy 4th of July!

The 4th of July means hotdogs, fireworks and most importantly time at the lake! This week we kept busy getting everyone’s toys ready to party this weekend.

We had an amazing black-sparkle Centurion come in for a full exterior detail and ceramic coating, a gorgeous Malibu 22LSV do a full exterior detail and ceramic coating, tower and window coating and a unique McLaren sports car do a detail and 5-year coating as well!

Our shop was hustle and bustle all week long but we managed to get everything done by the deadline so our staff can enjoy our 4th on the lake with our clients!

Marvelous Malibu!

This Malibu came to us from the factory, so you’d think she’d be perfect right? Unfortunately not! As good as Malibu is at making wonderful boats, they don’t always look perfect when they arrive at your door.

That’s the main reason that we do a test spots on every single boat that we see, whether it’s a 2020, or 1990. Every boat is different and our trained technicians will diagnose exactly what is needed upon arrival at your boat.

Busy summer!

It was a very busy week here at Boat Beautiful! We’ve got a bigger staff than ever, so we can handle the craziness of this summer. In our shop this week we had three AMAZING boats come in for full details and ceramic coatings.

After a single-stage polish these babies are shining! Especially the flake finish really shows off how well the detail and ceramic coat lock in the beauty of a boat.

Going the extra mile!

Usually, we ceramic coat in our private, enclosed shop. This way we can control the elements, and make sure the coating is as immaculate as possible. But, for bigger boats, sometimes that’s not possible.

This week we ceramic coated a 42′ Regal. This was far too big to fit indoors, so we had to get creative. The boat was in a covered slip, so we didn’t need to worry about rain so much, (plus living in Central Texas, it almost never rains!) But, we did have the challenge of how to polish and coat the sides of the hull that we couldn’t reach from the dock, or from leaning over the rails on the side.

This is where we excel. We are great at creative problem solving, and making sure the job gets done right! We reached out to our friends at local marina stores and found one of these , a BOTE floating pad.

We got her blown up, tied off to the boat, and our technician sat atop the water and went to work! She turned out absolutely beautiful and we couldn’t have been happier with the success of our solution.

What to do about Water Spots

We’ve all been there. Out for a day on the lake with the family and friends, everything is going well until you go to park her for the day. You get her up on the lift and notice hard, ugly water spots all over your exterior.

The lakes in Central Texas have some of the hardest calcium around. That makes those awful spots more prevalent, and more sticky.

If you just leave them there, they can turn into “hard” water spots, where the calcium actually eats away at the gel coat on your boat’s exterior and can cause serious damage that can cost thousands to fix.

Many people take to wiping down their boats after each use, which is the best way to make sure you don’t let those spots set in. But what do you use to wipe her down?

Family on the Lake

With kids these days being so busy, it’s hard to carve out any true family time. Between school, sports, clubs and the ever-present phone all vying for attention. How are families supposed to spend any quality time together?

That’s where boats come in. Load the boat up with the whole family, disconnect from the rest of the world and make some memories that you’ll cherish forever.

So many families have adopted this model of quality time that it’s almost more common to see a boat full of kids in life jackets than a boat full of adults with beers. It’s effective, it’s easy, and in Central Texas it’s local.

After the big family weekend on the boat, she may look a little worse for the wear. That’s where we come in. She’ll need to have the chips vacuumed out of the carpet, the windows wiped of sticky prints and the outside wiped down from the calcium in the lake.

Get your boat ready for summer!

April 15 means one thing to most Americans: Tax day. But for my family it meant something completely different. April 15 is the first day that the lake is warm enough to swim in! Now obviously this isn’t an exact science, since it’s close to summer temps all year round in Central Texas, but nonetheless April 15 is quickly approaching and you’re going to need to be lake ready.
If your boat has been sitting in the slip, dry stack, or in your backyard for these last few months you should be thinking about what shape it’ll be in come that first day on the lake. No one wants to spend the first day of sunshine and blue skies washing and waxing in preparation for the fun. So, here are some super simple steps to insure that your first lake day goes off without a hitch.

-Start her up
Give your boat a good test start and make sure everything whirrs back to life. Sitting in the slip for 6 to 8 months can drain a battery or inverter easily. Make sure she is all gassed up and ready to roll!

-Look for repairs needed
Give your boat a once-over. You never know if a possum made your cruiser its home for the winter. Look for tears in upholstery, nicks in the gel coat and any oxidation that could have formed while you were away.

-Get her cleaned up
This is the easiest part. Call Boat Beautiful. Our trained technicians will come out to you anywhere in Central Texas to give your boat a full detail. We’re going to Scrub, UV protect, and condition your seats, lift up those seats and clean everything underneath, taking care of all compartments, vacuum all carpeting, clean all chrome and stainless steel, clean your windows, clean tower and bimini (if you have them,) and we will also wash your cover. For the exterior we will asses what she needs and apply a series of compounds and waxes to best bring back your gel coat’s original shine.

-Protect her shine

Ceramic Coating – What It Is, and How It Can Help

What It Is

Let’s start at the beginning; what exactly is a ceramic coating? Well, dear reader, I’m glad you asked. A ceramic coating is a liquid polymer and high-caliber wax alternative. It bonds with a vehicle or boat’s paint to give added protection to it’s surface area. A ceramic coating creates a permanent or semi-permanent bond with a vehicle’s paint, meaning that it does not wash away or break down and can last anywhere from 18-36 months.

How It Helps

Ceramic coatings have hydrophobic properties, which simply means they repel water more easily. What this means for your vehicle is that mud, dirt, and grime will have a much more difficult time sticking to your paint; that means less scratches and easier cleaning for you.

Ceramic coatings are NOT fully scratch-immune, but they do provide a greater measure of scratch-resistance compared to normal wax coatings. They also provide better resistance against different environmental factors such as dust and dirt blown by winds or kicked up off the pavement, but again, they DO NOT provide 100% protection.

How To Properly Polish Your Boat

Does your boat’s hull have deep and heavy scratches? Pretty intense swirl marks? In this video we demonstrate the process that we use for gel coat correction in regards to scratches, swirls, and oxidation.

When we were working on this Nautique G21 we encountered an awful case of dock rash. This happens when the boat rubs up against the dock too many times and leaves some heavy scratches in the gel coat.

Andrew shows you how he tackled this issue. He demonstrates the tools he’s using, the compounds (including our favorite Hula Boat Care), the types of machine pads and the order that he went in to get these incredible results. What do you think?

A Moomba LSV Detailed & Cleaned

Haven’t seen one of these in a while. It’s a Moomba LSV! it’s a cool boat, but certain was even cooler after our crew rolled up their sleeves and went to work.

For this particular undertaking we did quite a bit of work on the interior. Let’s face it, and especially once you see the video you’ll see that she was quite dirty.

We cleaned and conditioned the vinyl seats. For this we use an all purpose cleaner that also conditions. It’s a nice combo and we’re quite fond of it. But before we could do this we had to rid the surfaces of any mold or mildew. This is quite common, since, well — boats get wet!

We also vacuumed and cleaned around the cup holders and we certainly made sure that all storage compartments would pass the test.

The windows were also taken care of and the hull was polished, but prior to this we had power-washed and scrubbed the exterior to prime the surface first.

The final result had this Moomba looking light years beyond where she started at.

Tige Z1 Boat Cleaning

Recently we had a Tige z1 come through our shop. This boat is equipped with a Wet Sounds audio system and the legendary TAPS Surf System ( Tige Adjustable Performance System ); which gives you full control over the list, yaw, draw and the overall wake control. This boat is a wake boarder’s dream!

Now it was time for us to step in and do-what-we-do. An in-depth boat cleaning was in store first, so we set to work power washing the cover, steam cleaning the exterior, cleaning down the vinyl throughout the interior of the Tige with an all-purpose cleaner and then cleaning the tower and bimini. Next, we vacuumed every, little crevice and compartment and conditioned the vinyl to keep it hydrated and fresh.

Overall the work was very satisfying and it’s always a sight to behold when you get these boats, like the Tige Z1 out into the open and into the sunlight. They just gleam brighter than the sun!

Detailing a Supra SA350

This 2013 SA350 powered by a 57MR V8 motor is just killer looking. It’s got attitude and a very pleasing design to it and the interior is comfortable, accommodating and attractive. You can’t beat that.

We did quite a bit of work on this boat during the detailing process. The hull was scrubbed and hand-washed first. Then we cleaned all of the interior vinyl and made sure that any cushions were cleaned up to standards.

Next we vacuumed out any and all compartments and proceeded with scrubbing the floor. Finally, the tower and bimini were cleaned and we performed a single-stage polish on the exterior.

Detailed Boat Cleaning of an Ultra 2500 Pontoon

This Pontoon arrived to us in some pretty bad shape, but we see this a lot. Over time the elements of mother nature really have their way with these kinds of boats and the vinyl seating begins to take on mold and stains.

The first thing we did as we worked our way through this pontoon was to power wash the carpet. We really worked on this part and blasted all of the dirt and grossness out of it using a powerful all purpose cleaner. Then we used a carpet extractor to suck up all of the remaining water and moisture.

Then it was time to kill off any mold or mildew as we found it. While we were cleaning this boat we attacked any stains as well. There were a lot of these. There was a lot of scrubbing involved.

Finally we used one of our favorite boat care products. A little beauty called Hula Boat Care which is an all-in-one cleaner and conditioner. We used this on all the vinyl to both clean it and at the same time make it re-hydrated and supple again.

The video really lays out everything that we did and you won’t believe the condition of this boat when you watch it. Lots of good before and after footage that really demonstrates just effective this type of boat cleaning can be.

Elegant, sleek, sophisticated. Those are just some of the words when the Corsair 36 is out of the water and you’re staring down the hull.

It’s a great boat with 6′ 2″ of headroom in the cabin and even comes with its own galley and dinette table. For a comfortable outing on the water you really can’t beat this.

We put a lot of heart-and-soul into the exterior of this vessel with a full, single-stage polish and a layer of ceramic coating for added protection. It was a lot of boat to cover, but well worth it.

Ceramic Coating on a Nautique GS22 Boat

Today we’re showing you just how effective a layer of ceramic coating can be when applied to a boat like this one, the Nautique GS22. This boat road it out through serious flood conditions back in Oct of 2018 not far from Austin, TX.

We had previously ceramic coated this boat and in this video you can see perfectly well how responsive the ceramic coating is to being cleaned and beading up water.

We used a steamer on this one, but that’s the luxury of doing what we do on a professional level. You don’t even need that once you have your boat ceramic coated.

Detailing a Bennington 2275 GL Pontoon Boat

Today we got to detail a 2007 Bennington that measures 21 feet of pure fun. It’s a nice fishing boat with a 50HP engine made by Yamaha; which can entertain up to 11 people if you so desire.

We acid-washed the pontoons, cleaned the covers and cleaned the bimini. Also did a full interior detail which included scrubbing the seats, UV protection and conditioning, cleaning all the wells underneath the seats and cleaning the carpet..

These Benningtons are really nice and casual and they even feature a fishing-rod holder upgrade; which is definitely a nice touch. This particular boat was fairly mucky, so we really took our time with the pontoons, because they obviously needed some lovin’.

Watch the video and you’ll see the huge difference that a boat detailing can make. She went from murky and haggard-looking to brand spankin’ new.

Detailing a 2016 Tige RZX

What a magnificent treat of a boat that we had the great opportunity to get our hands on! The Tige has features that’ll make any boating enthusiast drool such as the TAPS 3 Surf System and the Tige Touch2 Interface.

It’s loaded with a Indmar Raptor 440 engine with around 400HP, has the patented Convex V hull and can support up to 16 people; making it ideal for family outings.

We gave this little angel our fullest attention. A full detail interior, exterior washing, exterior correction, a decontamination prep and finally a thorough ceramic coating.
